The seasonal incidence of sugarcane woolly aphid, Ceratovacuna lanigera Zehntner (Homoptera: Aphididae), and its natural enemies was studied at Instructional-Cum-Research (ICR) Farm, Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat and at Sugarcane Research Station (SRS), Buralikson, Golaghat during 2004-05. Out of five species of natural enemies recorded at ICR Farm, AAU, Jorhat, Eupeodes confrater (Wiedemann), Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens), Coelophora biplagiata (Mulsant) and Dipha aphidivora (Meyrick) had significant positive impact on sugarcane woolly aphid population, while non-significant negative correlation of aphid population was observed with the population of Encarsia flavoscutellum Zehntner. Multiple regression analysis of different natural enemies with the population of C. lanigera showed 89.0 per cent relationship with the aphid population. At SRS, Buralikson, Golaghat, the only observed natural enemy D. aphidivora showed significant positive impact on woolly aphid population.Keywords

Field experiment was conducted to investigate the nature of damage caused by sugarcane plassey borer C. tumidicostalis. Generally, there are two phases of infestation of the pests known as primary and secondary infestation. From the investigation, it was observed that the mean number of internodes damaged was more or less similar (1 to 3 internodes) in both the primary and secondary infestation. The mean number of damaged internode was 1.88, 2.06 and 2.42 which was slightly more in the secondary infested canes with 1.78, 2.56 and 2.74 in August, September and October, respectively. However, there was a great variation in the length of spindle damaged by the larvae in primary and secondary infested cane. Similarly, the mean length of internode damaged was more in primary infested canes than secondary infested canes. The mean proportion damaged length caused by the larvae in primary infested cane was 0.46, 0.45 and 0.41 during August, September and October as against 0.18, 0.13 and 0.16 in secondary infested cane, respectively.Keywords

Experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of six different strains of entomopathogenic fungi and one insecticide molecule against sucking pests of Bhut Jalakia during 2014-15 to 2016-17. Bhut Jalakia is one of the hottest chillis in the world, grown extensively in Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. Aphis gossypii Glover, Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood and Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) are the major sucking pests of Bhut Jalakia inflicting damage right from planting to fruiting stages of the crop. Three rounds of biopesticides @ 1 × 108 spores/gm and insecticide (imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 20 gm a.i./ha) imposed at 3 weeks interval against the pests revealed that imidacloprid 17.8 SL could significantly reduce the mean population of A. gossypii (4.64); S. dorsalis (2.03) and B. tabaci (0.28), closely followed by Beauveria bassiana (NBAIR-Bb-5a) with 7.20, 3.07 and 0.64 per 10 leaves and both the treatments were on par in their efficacy after third spray. The rest of the entomopathogenic fungi were more or less effective in reducing the sucking pests and statistically at par with each other compared to untreated control plot. Highest yield of 52.64 q/ha recorded in imidacloprid treated plot followed by NBAIR strain of Bb-5a with 45.85 q/ha and had no any significant difference from each other. Minimum yield of 26.78 q/ha was obtained in untreated control plot.Keywords

A field experiment to evaluate some IPM modules against major pests viz., Aphis gossypii, Myzus persicae, Bemisia tabaci and their natural enemies viz., coccinellids and spiders occurring in king chilli Capsicum chinense Jacquin was carried out during rabi (2014-16) at Jorhat, Assam. The results revealed that module M2 with seedling root dip treatment with imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 40g a.i./ ha + growing of border crop (okra)+ spraying of imidacloprid 17.8SL @ 40g a.i./ ha at 20 days after transplanting at 15 days interval is the most effective in suppressing aphids and whitefly followed by lambdacyhalothrin instead of imidacloprid in both the seasons. The insecticidal treatment modules had a significant effect on the pest and the viral diseases, thereby increasing the yield, with maximum yield obtained in module M2 (3564.44 kg/ ha) and with a maximum cost-benefit ratio of 1: 4.85.Keywords
